This is a continuation of a series of articles I started four days ago on The Little Things in Life.
5. Invest in Yourself. “Ultimately, there’s one investment that supersedes all others: Invest in yourself.”-Warren Buffett
In a world of approximately 7 billion people, you are a stunning masterpiece. You’re beautifully and wonderfully made by God. This is a great reason to invest in yourself.
When the word, ‘investment’ is mentioned, the first thing that comes to most people’s minds is the act of multiplying money. True. However, my intention is to draw your attention to an extremely important area which more often than not is usually neglected. That area is YOU. Spend time, effort and energy on YOU.
Life is more fulfilling when you invest in yourself just as you invest in other people.
Friend, it’s high time you invested in yourself. Don’t leave your life to chance. Here are three major areas in your life you need to invest in:
- Invest in your passion.
What are you passionate about? What is that singular hobby you cherish so much that if you don’t get paid, you will still be so glad that you are fully in it? Could it be fashion, public speaking, cooking, music, knitting, hiking, or skiing? Whatever it is, strive to be the best at it. Pursue it with everything you have. It’s never too late to pursue your dreams. Colonel Harland David Sanders’ story is a classic example. Remember, the world will only pay for the value they can get. Strive to be a better YOU this year.
Lately, I’ve been so interested in photography. For me, photography is much more than shooting pictures; it’s an art. As a budding photographer, I realise I’ve got to be familiar with the three pillars of photography–aperture, shutter speed and ISO. It is indeed an art. I dream of becoming one of the finest portrait and wedding photographers in the world. So I’ve set some goals for myself this year; and everyday, I am moving towards it. I have enrolled on some courses and I am committed to excelling in them. You can do likewise.
- Enlarge your capacity.
This is crucially instrumental to your success in life. Invest in knowledge. Enlarge your capacity. Read widely. Don’t limit yourself. Seek to know just about everything. Read books on Medicine, Law, Science, ICT, Finance etc. Reading makes your journey in life easy. Abraham Lincoln said “I will prepare and someday my chance will come.” Of course, his chance did come. He eventually became the 16th President of the United States and left his footprints on the sands of time.
- Invest in your health.
As you pursue your goals in life, never neglect your health. Take good care of your health. Go for medical check up regularly. Eat clean. Exercise regularly. Sleep well.
Investing in yourself will make you become the best version of yourself. When you are the best version of yourself, you will be at peace with yourself, your confidence will soar and you will be sought out by many. And this is one of the little things in life.
